Do We All Perceive Color the Same?

(A Wine Musing)

We all know the sky is blue and the grass is green.  But, why is my favorite color blue and yours is green?  Could it be that our eyes physically process light and hence, color, in the same way but our brains evaluate the result of that process differently?

We are all individuals with different life experiences.  So, it’s quite conceivable that our brains place different judgements on the same external stimuli.

But, what if we are more alike than we realize?  Could it be that everyone’s favorite color is the color I “see” in my brain when I look at the sky?  If I could see your “green”, would I say that color is “blue?”

There’s no way for us to know.  I cannot get inside your brain, and you cannot get inside mine.

No one argues over favorite colors.  It’s OK for you to have yours and for me to have mine.

Perhaps we should think of other opinions in the same way.  Is it conceivable that we share the same basic needs and desires, yet have different interpretations of how those get satisfied?
