Obstacles Define the Path

(A Wine Musing)

A truth of existence on our planet seems to be that difficulty leads to betterment.  Working out can be a drag, but a lean, strong body results.  Healthy food choices are not always at the top of our preference list, but health and well-being are their rewards.  Even the grape vine performs better given hardship – the best wine is made from the fruit of vines that have struggled for nutrients buried deep in the subsoil.

So, perhaps we should embrace what challenges us, understanding that it means we are on a path to success.  Being successful means to triumph or prevail.  This logically means we cannot be successful without something to overcome.

Perspective is important.  If we view obstacles as stepping stones to success, we are encouraged to persevere until we reach a happy outcome.  However, if we view impediments as roadblocks, we risk failure...or at least, a lack of forward momentum.

To overcome is its own reward.  We must experience every part of the journey.  Better if we embrace each step along the way.

“There are always obstacles and competitors.  There is never an open road, except the wide road that leads to failure.”

– Herbert Casson, journalist
